As someone who has to admit that probably a substantial percentage of my house comes from IKEA, I really salute those looking for nicer furniture shops in the Hague. I’ve been recently going through my worn-out IKEA furniture and replacing it with nicer additions of slightly higher quality and design. This post will hopefully help you redecorate your house in style! I included some tips for finding secondhand furniture as well.

For cheap basics, you can head to Leen Bakker as well as the hardware stores (Gamma) for cheap tables and basics. Honestly, it’s not worth spending more than fifty for cheap furniture of this quality, so I’d recommend looking at a kringloop (discussed below). Dutch affordable is quite different than many expats’ version of affordable, so I recommend thinking of your budget before walking into these shops. Unfortunately, IKEA or a Kringloop is often the best option if you don’t want to spend hundreds.

Made.com is a chic alternative to IKEA that includes furniture made by artisans. Although it’s a bit pricier, it’s higher quality and has a certain minimalistic look to it, perfect for creating a more polished and modern look within your home. You can often find discounts on the Internet….

Z Gallerie

For nice “affordable” and modern furniture, you can head to Z Gallerie. Although I wouldn’t call their furniture that affordable, it’s certainly stylish and perfect for creating a nicer look within their homes. I’m kind of obsessed with their big poofy chairs that I just want to read a novel in within my own reading nook.

bright living

For beautiful furniture to add as a statement piece, Bright Living is the place to go. I love their beautiful dressers, which add a beautiful touch to any room!

Fonq

Although online online, FONQ is a great affordable-ish resource for modern individual pieces and you might find a stylish chair, couch, or lamp to add to your home. Needless to say, you will find some good discounts regularly online, so check before buying for a good discount code!

Riviera Maison

For boho-chic, urban chic, or Hamptons-style, you can head to Riviera Maison for stylish accessories to add to their home. They’re a bit pricey, however, for maximum style and fun decorations, you can visit their shop within the center of the Hague.

megastores (near den haag HS)

Close to Den Haag HS, you’ll find the Megastores, which include quite a few furniture stores. This is a great place to pick up a sofa on clearance. You’ll also find numerous other stores with a specialization on home living from beds to decorations.

Loods5

For next-level chic at a great price, consider heading out LoodS5 for reasonable and beautiful chairs and sofas. Their sales make it worth your time to shop online although unfortunately, they don’t have a location within the Hague for now. You’ll need to go to Zaandam or shop online.

secondhand furniture shops / sources

elephant & castle

One of the quirky furniture shops of the Hague has to be the Elephant & Castle store in Centrum. This interesting shop is closer to a cabinet of curiosities, but you still might find something to decorate your home with in here that is truly unique!

kringloops

A kringloop is a second-hand store within the Netherlands. Some sell furniture while others sell clothing and other household items. Consider stepping into some of the ones in the nicer neighborhoods or the larger locations (e.g. near the Binkhorst) to browse for furniture. You might be really surprised by the quality of the furniture, which is often top-rate at a reduced price! You might want to look up RataPlan Den Haag, which is one of the biggest kringloops in the Hague!

online groups (facebook)

One of my favorite ways of browsing for furniture, especially near the end of the month, is on Facebook. If you check Facebook Marketplace and join a few of the buy/sell groups, you’ll see a lot of really gorgeous furniture and antiques for a really reasonable price. I have some Delftware vases in my houses that I found on Facebook that I love!

marktplaats

Marktplaats is Dutch Ebay! They recently switched the interface to make it possible to browse the app in English, which is super handy. You might need to bid for some items, but you can always withdraw the bid if pick-up becomes too much of an issue. I found a beautiful antique oak wooden table and matching chairs that were delivered by the former owner for just fifty euros all together. The person had just purchased a bigger table and didn’t want this beautiful set. Their loss, my gain!

any other furniture shops in the hague that you’d recommend?
