As someone lactose-intolerant who eats mostly vegan, I’ve been steadily trying out the various vegetarian and vegan restaurants around the Hague. Luckily, vegan food is becoming more and more popular, so it’s becoming easier to order vegan dishes at many restaurants. I’ve focused this list on restaurants with a focus on vegetarian and vegan food as you can typically find something, but it’s always nicer when the server doesn’t look at you like you have two heads when you ask for a soy latte!

The budget varies depending how much you want to spend. You’ll find a few local eating nights via lekkernassûh and a few other non-profits who aim to minimize food waste in a nice environment. You’ll need to reserve your place ahead and check the schedule accordingly!

For the newest vegan/vegetarian food developments in the Hague region, I recommend joining Vegan Den Haag on Facebook for the latest restaurant openings, events, and vegetarian/vegan products. It’s mostly in Dutch, but you can ask in English if needed!

For a quick veggie-friendly meal near Den Haag HS, I recommend heading to de Vegetarische Snackbar for 100% vegetarian dishes. I absolutely loved their vegan “shoarma” made with vegan meats and lots of veggies. The vegan kapsalon is also absolutely delicious. You usually don’t need to wait too long for food here, perfect for a quick lunch or dinner after work. There are a few tables although most of the food is to-go. Prices are pretty affordable and you can also pick up vegan ice cream here!

hummus

I love Hummus! This restaurant started in Delft, but non-vegan and vegans will fall in love with their vegetarian dishes, fresh bread, and rich flavors. Not surprisingly, their hummus is quite good although my favorite dish at Hummus has to be the Sabich, which is made with grilled eggplant, tahini, and mango sauce. (You can get it without the egg.) The prices are pretty reasonable for lunch and dinner, making it a date-night favorite of mine!

foam

For slightly upscale vegetarian and vegan food, FOAM is an interesting cafe that is vegan-friendly and organic. Lunch is the most popular meal here, so be sure to arrive early if you wish to come during the week as it’s popular with professionals! Perfect for a healthy lunch out!

quench cafe

Quench Cafe has the most amazing vegan cakes from Epicurious, a vegan bakery in the Hague. This cozy cafe has a great selection of various drinks for every taste, so don’t hesitate to indulge your sweet tooth in a way that is good for the earth here!

love & Peas

This cozy Palestinian restaurant serves up some of the best vegan falafel in the Hague! The interior is cutely decorated with retro-themed decor. It feels intimate and the staff is quite friendly!

Mammamia

Although I definitely make my own vegan pizza at home, we finally have a vegan-friendly pizzeria in the Hague that doesn’t simply take off the cheese. Although their pizza isn’t particularly cheap, it’s the real thing and they make their own delicious vegan cheese that works perfectly on the pizza. Vegan pasta is also an option.

After a roaring success, the Vegetarian Butcher has finally opened a restaurant dedicated to serving their “meats.” (Don’t worry: they’re vegan!) The prices are reasonable for lunch and dinner (although a bit on the higher side). Their food is inspired by food from all over the world from Lebanese to Korean. Be sure to bring your friend who is a skeptic of vegan food here to have their mind blown! Make a reservation in advance for dinner.

club vers

Although not exclusively vegetarian, Club Vers is a great destination for vegetarians and vegans looking for a healthy breakfast in the Hague. This cozy cafe near Den Haag HS has an ever-changing menu that draws inspiration from all over the world and the vegan-friendly drinks are quite nice too!

Restaurant Hagedis

For vegan fondue, you must come to Restaurant Hagedis! This Hague restaurant with seasonal ingredients is well-known in the vegan community for their delicious cashew-cheese and creative dishes using vegan ingredients. For date night, reserve in advance for the fondue served with other side dishes for sharing.

buddha bowl

For your post-yoga meal, head to Buddha Bowl for delicious and filling Buddha Bowls with the ingredients of your choice! I really loved their smoothie when I was last here! Although it’s not exclusively vegetarian, vegetarians will be very happy here!

hortus

Hortus is one of the upscale vegetable-only restaurants in the Hague. They love to experiment with their flavors, which might be good for experimental eaters, however it might not be for you if you’re a bit pickier. They also do lunch if you find their dinner menu a bit expensive.

veggies on fire

Another great vegetarian restaurant is Veggies on Fire! This small vegetarian/vegan restaurant has a fantastic atmosphere and a creative menu. They’re only open for dinner and fill up, so reserve ahead if you have plans to enjoy a delicious supper here!

Afhaal Restaurant Rudra

For vegan Surinamese food, you can pick up affordable dinner to go at this Indian Surinamese restaurant towards Wateringen. They have vegan bami, nasi, and roti. Although you can easily find vegetarian Surinamese food, fully vegan Surinamese can take a bit more effort to find.

Fast & Vegan

Fast & Vegan is a great spot in the Hague to go for a vegan-friendly burger. I loved their Beyond Burger!
