If you’ve been watching too many episodes of Nailed It or need a cake for a special occasion, the Hague has a lot of great bakeries! I got you covered as a local with a sweet tooth! I’ve created a round-up of the best bakeries in the Hague specialized in custom made cakes to-order (for parties), pastries, and gluten-free bread and cakes.

I’ve placed a star next to bakeries that only have service provided upon order. Some of these bakeries in the Hague have physical locations where you can also enjoy a slice of cake in a cozy setting.

It’s easy as ABC if you’re looking for a dynamite cake for a special occasion. I often order my cakes and pies custom from American Baking Company, a Dutch-American bakery in the Hague. This custom bakery only sells goods to-go from their kitchen although you can find their vegan sweets at most Coffee Companies! I strongly recommend the chocolate pie and pecan pie, which drove my husband to tears. Order in advance for major holidays as they get quite busy.

cheesecake company

One of the best bakeries for cakes as well as cheesecakes is Cheesecake Company. This American-run bakery in the Hague has a cozy cafe with great coffee and delicious cakes. I love their chocolate-peanut butter cake, but cheesecake lovers will struggle to make a decision here! You can order authentic American-style cheesecakes with a variety of flavors and additions for special occasions, including lactose-free cheesecake (to order).

I follow the Canadian Cupcakery on Instagram–and their cakes are out of this world. If you’re looking for an amazing custom cake in the Hague region, consider ordering from them for that special touch. (Especially good for kids dreaming of a certain design).

Although there is no physical storefront, this is one of the best bakeries for custom-made cakes and cupcakes (for pick-up) in the Hague. Call or order online ahead and look up their Niffler cake! If you love Unicorn cakes, they make them!

bloem

Bloem is one of my favorite bakeries with a cafe in the Hague for a slice of cake to stay. This very cozy cafe near Plein offers limited seating and scrumptious cakes that change on a daily basis. They do offer cakes for catering, but you must call in advance for this service. Similarly, make a reservation if you intend to come here on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon as it’s a favorite for high-tea with Dutchies.

It’s said that Queen Maxima herself is a huge fan of the French macarons from this highly-rated bakery in the Hague, which won a world championship as well as “Pâtisserie of the year” at one point. Jarreau Patisserie is where to come for the best candies in the Hague, in my opinion. They create delicious (although not cheap!) handcrafted macarons for those craving a true Parisian macaron, French pastries, and bobons, fresh breads, and chocolates.

El Amier

Although French pastries are fantastic, Arabic pastries are so good too. El Amier is one of the best Arabic bakeries in the Hague, so if you’re looking for something different to satisfy your sweet tooth, stop here for the authentic thing. They also serve Syrian-style ice cream in summer.

One of my worst indulgences is stepping into Boulangerie Michel after a nearby workout. This French bakery has fantastic bread made entirely on-site and I’d recommend picking up a loaf to enjoy on a lazy weekend. Expect lines on Saturdays as everyone else is queueing up for the croissants! The prices are fairly reasonable considering the quality.

Philippe Galerne

Always expect a line at Philippe Galerne! I lived closeby for a while and I’d often stop here for the high-quality bread although many rave about their croissants. The mornings can be busy, but it’s definitely worth the wait for the pastries at this French bakery in the Hague!

SUCRÉ SALÉ

The Hague has no shortage of competition for the best croissant and baguette. Sucré Salé is going up against the best of them, so be sure to stop by for the tartelettes and truffles. If you’re craving a good croissant in the Hague, come to Sucré Salé for the best!

where to buy gluten-free pastries and cakes (for those with allergies)

The Welsh Bakestone

This bakery in the Hague is 100% gluten-free for those with a celiac allergy or who choose to cut gluten out of their diet. I stopped by for a slice of cake a while and it was really good. I couldn’t tell it was gluten-free at all, so if you’re looking for a gluten-free cake in the Hague, be sure to call ahead or stop by for some goodies!

Bittersweetz is a great bakery for those who are gluten-free. No matter what issues you have, whether it’s gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance, or diabetes, you’ll find something delicious and still sweet without making you feel guilty! They have a cozy cafe that serves high tea, so you can stop by for a pastry or order ahead for a special occasion for a loved one who has allergies.

any other bakeries in the hague that you recommend ordering from or eating at?

Hello, I also recommend Lavinia’s Cakes’n’Buttons on Pietstraat, generally only raw cakes and simply unique and amazing, fresh ingrédients artizanal cakes. Her birthday cakes are very classy works of art and with very high quality ingredients so a bit pricey but well deserved. Have you tried this cafe?
