As someone happily in a relationship, I always am looking for interesting date ideas within the Hague area. Sometimes, something romantic doesn’t need to be a big gesture, but merely something small that the other person will appreciate. Although not all of these romantic ideas are for everyone, I hope that your date (or significant other) appreciates the effort that you put into your date! These are some romantic things to do in the Hague that I can recommend, but please leave a comment if I missed something that you’d recommend!
A romantic bike ride
For those on a budget, a romantic bike ride outside of the Hague is a great idea. I can personally recommend this scenic bike ride that winds through Voorburg and Leidschendam before ending up along the beautiful Molendriegang (with the windmills). That said, you can find a number of beautiful cycling routes through the forests of the Hague, especially in fall. I always love biking slowly through the Statenkwartier before ending up by the beach, so just adjust your itinerary to include some of your favorite places!
a craft beer tasting or a cocktail
I recently discovered the craft beer tasting menu at Brody’s. This American bar in the Hague has a great selection of local beer as well as imported beer. They have a nice tasting menu where you can try different beers, which is a fun date idea for those who drink.
For a nice cocktail, you can head to a number of places within the Hague whether it’s the cool hidden speakeasy in Chinatown, the Court, or Van Kleef for sampling the local liquors. I also am quite partial to the rooftop bar at Bleyenberg.

Have a picnic
The Hague has so many lovely parks. Whether you want to watch the boats float by in Westbroekpark or walk through the beautiful forest of Scheveningse Bos, you’ll find so many lovely locations for a picnic, especially on a nice day. Load up on supplies at Albert Heijn or Ekoplaza and enjoy!
shopping the haagse markt for fun ingredients and make a crazy meal out of what you buy
I love browsing the Haagse Markt as you have no idea what you’ll find. Not everyone enjoys the Haagse Market as it can be a bit stressful, but make an adventure of going to the Haagse Market. Simply, experiment with the ingredients that you’re buying. Whether you’re trying out
One of my favorite things to do is pick up fruits and vegetables that I don’t recognize and ask what it is. The vendors often give recommendations for how to cook each item, so ask if you’re not sure!
watching the sunset along the beach
As the only major city in the Netherlands with a beach, the Hague is quite unique. I’m not a beach person, but there’s something about plopping down in the sand with a few beers (or a drink of your choice) before sitting there watching the sunset. For fewer tourists ruining your date, head to Kijkduin rather than Scheveningen itself.
Browse the antiques market
I’m a sucker for a good antique or secondhand market. I just love browsing for little items. On Thursdays (and Sundays during summer), you’ll find the antique market in Korte Voorhout or Plein. Be sure to stop by with some cash and just enjoy the beautiful setting.
enjoying a lazy weekend breakfast
For those of you living with your significant other, there’s something about creating your own weekend routine or just having a lazy weekend enjoying each
wandering around noordeinde and centrum with stopping into shops
I always love wandering around Noordeinde and the Hague city center. There’s something about wandering into the shops just browsing although my husband is sometimes a little less keen. I always love stopping into the American Book Centre and the Bookstore for English books as well as browsing the maps at one of the shops at Molenstraat. I usually cap off this day with filling up growlers at Free Beer Co. to enjoy on another day.
going skiing, snowboarding, or ice skating
Not everyone knows that there is an indoor skiing slope in the Hague. The Uithof is a fitness facility on the outskirts of the Hague with all kinds of fun activities that you can do year-round indoors. Whether it’s skiing, snowboarding, or ice skating, you can imagine how nice it would be on a warm day to get away from the heat! It’s not too expensive to do any of these activities, but I often check Social Deal for specials. There’s also another skiing slope in Zoetermeer if you’re looking to save on a first-time lesson!
trying out rock climbing or bouldering together
Sometimes an adrenaline rush is all you need. There’s research that people feel more affectionate towards each other while doing something adventurous with heights. I had stopped climbing due to an injury,
browsing art at the museums in the Hague
For a city with such a stiff reputation, the Hague has so much culture! Whether you’re into the old masters or prefer modern art, consider stepping into the museums of the Hague. The Maurithuis is perfect for lovers of the old Masters while Museum Voorlinden is perfect for art lovers looking for something new and different. The Gemeentemuseum has something for everyone! Most museums in the Hague are free with the Museumkaart, which is a great investment if you love culture. (Museum Voorlinden is not included in the Museumkaart…)
go for a wine tasting at the hague’s many wine bars
A wine tasting can be a great way to unwind with your significant other. You’ll find quite a few nice wine bars in the Hague, including Nomad and Boozy. Take notes and compare notes on the wine before seeing how the other described it!
Although the nightlife in the Hague is not as famous as other cities, you can still go out dancing. Whether you prefer salsa, house, or top-40, you’ll find a club or bar for the occasion. Bleyenberg occasionally has silent-discos and La Bodeguita often hosts Latin dance parties on Fridays. Similarly, you’ll find quite a few dance classes and workshops if you prefer a more structured setting.
Go for a movie marathon
Whether you have a movie pass that allows you unlimited access to films or simply love films, you’ll find a number of theatres and movie houses in the Hague with a great movie selection. I personally prefer the Filmhuis for indie films in English. Consider going for a movie marathon at any theatre. If you’re on a budget, buy popcorn and stay in for a Netflix-and-chill date.
act like a kid at Drievliet (or a carnival)
Not everyone knows that there are several amusement parks in the Hague! Consider heading to Drievliet, which is marketed as a family park. However, you can enjoy a fun day riding the roller coasters, eating cotton candy, and otherwise having that dream date straight out of the movies. It’s not so cheap compared to the other dates listed here, however you might be able to wait for a carnival to do this date idea for fewer euros!
go out for a kind of cuisine that you’ve never had before!
The Hague is full of interesting restaurants. Break out of your usual routine and consider heading to a different restaurant. Whether you’re going out for Georgian food (at
have a just-desserts meal with sampling donuts, cakes, and other sweets in the hague
Who doesn’t love sweets? Consider having a meal that is pure indulgence! Start with some fresh cake at Bloem prior to getting a bubble tea in Chinatown. After you have a bit of space for more food, consider stopping by Donuts & Co. for donuts.
take an exercise class together
I recently joined OneFit, a fitness subscription that allows you to work out at different gyms and pop in easily for classes. Whether or not you have the subscription, a workout can be a great way to bond. Whether you’re trying out a yoga class (and laughing about it together) or trying out boxing for the first time, you might find that an exercise class is a great way to release tension and laugh together about the class! (It’s also free to walk/run in the Haagse or Scheveningse Bos if you’re on a budget.)
take a day trip to another city
One of the things that I love about the Hague is how many cities that you can visit within an hour by train. Delft is always a delight to visit although Leiden and Dordrecht (with its gorgeous canals!) can be a nice break from my usual routine!
